Manufacturing Database as Digital Twin

In order to boost traceability and digitalization of modern manufacturing processes of composite components, a manufacturing database has been developed during the project.

The database serves as a central element for establishing a digital twin of the composite parts produced within TOSCA and consists of a framework that enables the integration of heterogeneous data originating from the automated lay-up process, quality inspection, welding, structural health monitoring, and from the various curing processes.

The key innovation of this work is the possibility to relate each data point to the underlying geometric definition of the part. In particular, the positions of defects, welding joints and repair processes become traceable during each section of the part’s lifecycle. The manufacturing database can be easily explored using the software developed by Profactor as a result of the project.
